Our Mission Statement

Our Values

Sketchboard is a artist-led nonprofit advancing equitable access to high-quality foundational art education. We curate regular uninstructed figure drawing sessions—low-barrier, consistent practice time with an Art Model, alongside curriculum-driven workshops and mentorship. By reducing financial barriers through accessible pricing and scholarship pathways, we help participants build foundational skills, portfolios, and long-term creative opportunity.

Sketchboard is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment for all. We will not collaborate with organizations, venues, or individuals who engage in oppressive ideologies/settler colonialism and views.

The historical oppression and marginalization of the Ohlone and other groups/identities (including, but not limited to other First Nations Peoples, Black, People of Color, LGBTQ+ and other victims of white supremacy and imperialism) have created inequities that persist into the present.

We are committed to centering those who disproportionately face barriers to access in the arts, education and culture. Sustaining these spaces means our values are non-negotiable. This unwavering stance ensures that marginalized artists can thrive, amplify their voices, and become stronger together, without having to continually debate their worth or their right to create.

We honor our ancestors by practicing these community agreements each week, aligning with our values. We prioritize nurturing out relationships and maintain each space with respect, integrity, and honesty.
